DVD burning software?

This isn’t exactly the usual "what’s the best software for burning DVDs" question…

I just bought a new Sony DVD burner, and it comes with Nero 7. However, I have read a bunch of reviews on Amazon that say that the installation for Nero "screwed up their computer." Now, they didn’t get more specific about what exactly it did, but I wanted to check on here to see if people think this is a common problem with Nero, or if it’s rare.

Also, I need to burn avi files onto a DVD that can be read by a regular, household DVD player that is DVD-R compatible — Nero 7 can do that, can’t it?

And question #3: What (if any) are the major advances to Roxio? (I’d prefer not to have to buy extra software, but I’ll consider it if people really think it’s worth it.)

ive used roxio and love it, simple to use and i havent had problems with it. i had nero a couple years ago, didnt have problems like youve mentioned but i do prefer roxio since it has a lot of stuff that helps with editing movies etc if you are making your own as well as just burning dvds. i got roxio at costco so it was a bit cheaper than what you’d normally pay in other electronic stores.
personally i prefer roxio but it all depends on what you want, you should check roxio out and see what sort of features you need/want, if you dont really care or dont need a lot than i would just use nero, just depends how often you plan on using it. here’s a link to some info on roxio
