Dubbing a Hi8 8mm Cassette to DVD Using Burner?

Hello,
Please help! Would anyone know if I can just plug my Sony’s DCR-TRV260 Digital8 camcorder into my Panasonic DMR-ES40VS VCR/DVD Burner (descriptions below) and dub the Hi8 8mm Cassette that is in the camcorder onto a DVD? I am an idiot when it comes to this and I am trying to make a nice Christmas present for my parents.
Thanks a million,

Yes you can.

You can connect your audio/video out cable from the camcorder and connect it to the audio/video in on the dvd recorder.

You’ll just need to hook up the cables, start the record on your dvd recorder, and hit play on your camera,.

It is essentially the same as hooking up a VCR. The manual to both devices should explain.

I didn’t see a Firewire input on your DVD recorder. My recorder has one. This makes it a lot easier and of better quality, since you can record a pure digital signal, rather than an analog one like you’ll have to do with the method I told you. Additionally, you can use the remote for a dvd recorder to control both devices. It makes editing a snap. Sony calls this method i.link.
