External DVD Writer/Burner?

I just purchased an external DVD Burner and had some concerns regarding its operation and storage.

I was wondering whether or not I could store the drive inside of its box (and the plastic bag it comes in) when it’s not in use, instead of leaving it out. I assume that the plastic bag is anti-static, since the drive arrives inside of it? And would it be safe for me to store it inside of the box it came in when it’s not in use?

Also, I was wondering if my placement of the device during operation was safe. When using it, I place it on top of the desk horizontally, close to the monitor and desktop PC. Could this placement have any adverse effects on any of the devices involved?

And I was a bit concerned about the vibration that emits from the drive while it loads/burns discs. Could this vibration cause any damage to the computer?

And finally, regarding the "buffer underrun protection" that comes with the drive, I was wondering whether I had to "enable" that option manually somehow when using Nero (the included software) to write discs or if the drive automatically utilizes the underrun protection?

I wished some of my clients were as careful with their IT equipment as you.

It is not necessary to store your external drive in the box or a anti-static bag. The external enclosure is basically a case that acts as a "Stand Alone" device that can withstand static and other factors that may damage the device.

The vibration is normal. Any modern optical recording device are spinning at very high RPM that results in vibration. The vibration is not signicant enough to cause any damage to your computer.

The "Buffer Underrun Protection" is used automatically by most, if not all, optical disc burning programs such as Nero or Roxio.

I hope this helps, and Good Luck!
